    Hi Guys:
I use adobe audition to change the volume on avi's. The odd one goes out of synch.
    1) Does anyone know why and how to fix the problem?.
    2) Is there any other software that will change the volume and is as easy to use?

    Thanks

You can try save as an mp3 (or wav). Then use another tool to add the new audio to the avi like avimuxgui or virtualdubmod and see if it makes any difference.

    OK. I found the problem.
Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source avi file. Decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.
Unfortunately, to me this is gibberish.
Can anyone please tell me what to do and what to use. If you live close enough to me, you will win a bottle of my GOOD homemade wine, otherwise, Ill have a glass of wine just for you!

    Thanks

  5. what kind of volume changes are you doing? complex audio editing , or something simple like global -3db change or normalization?

If it's a simple gain, you could use avidemux to do it all; it handles VBR audio much better than vdub.

Open your avi in avidemux, set the audio encoding and use audio filter gain value. Set the video to copy, format to AVI

    Thank you, Poisondeathray.
I bring the volume of a video clip, often 45 minute TV programs to a value of -18 db. Sometimes this is much, much greater than 3 db.
Audition will let me set the value at -18 db and, presto, the volume is adjusted and normalized.

  7. I don't think avidemux will go that extreme, only about 10db I think

In vdub, file=>save wav , this will be uncompressed audio (No longer vbr mp3) . Import that into audition , do your processing, export audio only (use compression if you want e.g. mp3)

Use avimuxgui or vdub to multiplex the audio & video
