  1. I've looked everywhere imaginable to find drivers for this camcorder and no luck. Canon no longer supports (4 yrs old camcorder) and googling canon drivers just gets me goofball sites who want me to sign up for monthly programs to provide drivers.

Windows XP pro doesn't even find the camera--using usb cable. I eventually need to get a firewire cable. Would the firewire make a difference????

i think it's a miniDV tape cam. if so the firewire connection is the only way to get the video off the cam, as the usb was used for web streaming and still picture transfer only.

Have you emailed cannon to request the drivers? I'm sure they have them somewhere. You may end up having to pay for a disc to be shipped to you but they have to drivers for it.

There are no drivers needed for IEEE-1394 (Firewire) transfer. XP supports DV natively.

I suggest you use WinDV but Movie Maker will also capture the digital stream.

If XP can't see the stills using USB, you may need Canon drivers or upgrade to Vista/Win7.
