My girlfriend just recently got a laptop but I'm a little worried about the temps. I've had a laptop before and know that they can get hot but I've never checked the temps until now and was wondering if I should be concerned?

Here's the temps and this is just on start up, it was a little more hot the other night. CPU was about 140 +

If you can, get her to use a cooling pad. My wife has a bad habbit of using her laptop on our bed. Yep you guessed it. When you use a laptop on a bed all the air vents are covered. That leads to heat. She was using it and then freaked out when the thing just went black. I turned it over and it was very hot to the touch. CPU had overheated and shut off. I left it off overnight and tried the next morning. It worked fine. I told her to actually use the cooling pad that I had bought her months before and that if she fried the cpu from heat by not using the pad that I wouldn't get her a new one. She's been using the cooling pad ever since.

Laptops normally run fairly hot. One reason they aren't well suited to long encodes. I use my laptop on my lap, but I do use a cooling pad that keeps the air vents open. (And it keeps my legs a lot cooler. )
