    Hi,

I generally use DVD Decrypter and Auto GK combination to back up my DVDs. Recently, I notice that it was not convrting them correctly, aspect ratiowise. These are primarily documentaries on TV, So the things that have black lines and full length picture (just like movies) have somehow disappeared and they cover the full widescreen TV without the lines. I know something is getting cut somewhere or is being squeezed up. I am not sure what, but the picture is not right.

The videos on 4:3 somehow remain in the same format and do not change but it the others that have a problem.

I have gone into the hidden options of Auto GK and asked it to keep the aspect ratio to original but in vain.

    Thanks in advance... Ali

  3. Post the AutoGK log. Also, post info on the VOB as guns1inger requests. It happens sometimes that the IFOs use one DAR but the VOBs are encoded in a different DAR (which is what DGIndex and AutoGK use), so you have to make a change in the Hidden Options.

That may be the mistake. Anything you change in the Hidden Options stays changed until you 'unchange' it. Your AR is 16:9. You definitely don't want to choose 'Original'.

Uncheck the 'Override Input AR' box and try again.

Hi, I tried what you said, went to hidden options, and override the aspect ration, but this time it gave me the picture in 4:3 which is worse than 16:9, as be original aspect ratio was 2.35:1, to put it in a more understanding manner it was 21.5:9 when done automatically it bacame 16:9 and when done with Overrride it became 12:9. This is the auto gk log

  8. Please, the MediaInfo information like before, this time for the 4:3 (as you say) AVI. Also, a small piece of the VOB (M2V). Open a VOB in DGIndex, mark a small (less than 10 second) piece using the [ and ] buttons, and then File->Save Project and Demux Video. If the resulting M2V is less than 30MB (I think), it can be uploaded here. Or use a 3rd party filesharing site, one such as SendSpace or MediaFire. 10MB or less should be fine. We just need to see the DAR of the VOB files.

  10. If you got a small M2V from DGIndex, then upload it to Sendspace or MediaFire and post the link. M2Vs are allowed to be uploaded here, although I may have been wrong about the file size allowed. Reading what it says, maybe 10 MB is the max. You click on the 'Upload files/Manage attachments' link, browse to the M2V, click on 'Upload', followed by 'Close This Window' after it tells you the upload in complete. What's going on is strange, and I'd like to try and figure it out. In your first AutoGK log, you never did anything to the AR because you didn't check the box before setting it to the original AR:
    07/04/2010 11:53:21] Found PAL source.
    [07/04/2010 11:53:21] Source aspect ratio: 16:9
    [07/04/2010 11:53:21] Analyzing source.
For the second log, when I told you to Uncheck the box you checked it instead, because that time you got the original AR.
    [09/04/2010 00:38:57] Found PAL source.
    [09/04/2010 00:38:57] Source aspect ratio: 16:9
[09/04/2010 00:38:57] Manual aspect ratio: Original
    [09/04/2010 00:38:57] Analyzing source.
Have you ever had this problem before? Have other encodes you've done with AutoGK gone OK, and this is the first and only one where the AR has been wrong when played on your TV set?

The problem I believe and one you noted too is that auto gk reads the original file format as 16:9 is a mitake, it should read 2.35. Auto GK somehow is not readin it correctly.... in both the circumstances it reads the aspect ratio as 16:9.

Also in the first settings, it was done what was originally there, i.e. the box was unchecked, and in the second time I checked the box and asked it to keep it to original.

  12. There are only 2 DARs, 4:3 and16:9. If that DVD really has a DAR of 2.35:1 (which I highly doubt), it's illegal and not AutoGK's fault. The mistake may be that the IFOs say 16:9 and the VOBs are 4:3. But that can't be determined for sure unless or until you either post a VOB sample somewhere for us to have a look, or post the info for a VOB that gives the real DAR (not what you showed before).
