  1. Hi, Im new to the forum as well as video editing in general and was referred to this forum from a member on afterdawn. I have some family videos I had uploaded to youtube and set to private for m own viewing being I dont have a large hard drive. Now i pulled them off of youtube and i am trying to pull the audio out of the last 30 seconds or so but keeping the video itself. I have access to Roxio Creator 2010 and Sony Vegas 7.0. Can anyone assist like a step by step plan of just how to remove a portion of audio while keeping the video with either of those programs or if there is a better program one can reccomend. I wont be using it to often so if a different program is to be downloaded i would prefer it to be free or trial. I appreicate everyone's help in advance, Thank You!

You don't have the original video you uploaded to YouTube? If all you have is what you downloaded from YouTube to work with, your quality isn't as good as the original quality, and will be even worse after you edit the audio and reupload the final version for YouTube to reencode yet again.

Anyway, the usual procedure is to demux the audio, cut out whatever you don't want, remux, and take it from there.

You haven't said in what format the audio and video are now. If you don't know, post a tree view from MediaInfo.

  3. I apologize for that. When I pulled them back off youtube they are in MP4 format. I used my fathers Dazzle program way back to upload them. Im not to concerned of quality I'm just trying to change them up a little. I do have avidemux downloaded and attempted to google how to remove audio but am unclear. If there is a different program that would work better I'm completely open. If you could give me a step by step of cutting out a section. I want to keep the whole audio and video but cut the audio out of the last like 30 seconds. if there is anything else you need to assist me in accomplishing that, please, feel free to ask. Once again I thank all in advnace for your help with this dilemma.

  4. There are lots of ways to do this. I use the free version of AoA Audio Extractor to get a WAV file. Then open it in the free Audacity, cut and otherwise edit the audio. Remux it back into MP4. I'm not too experienced with that (maybe you have to first also demux the video), but I think MP4box and a GUI can do the job.

You can't just cut out a section of audio....you need to preserve the original audio's length.
Drag the video into GoldWave. It should automatically convert the audio to editable WAV.
Select the section you want to "remove" and decrease the volume until it is gone.
    Select All
    Save as: WAV
Remux it back together with something like AviDemux(if it accepts the video codec inside that MP4 video) by loading the original video then replacing the audio with your newly created audio from GoldWave.

Of course you can. He said it's at the end. What do you think might happen if you don't keep it the original length? The video will cut off too when being remuxed? Not a chance. However, having said that, just silencing the audio is a good solution also. Goldwave costs money, though.

All I can say is....give it a shot. That has never worked for me. I always end up with sync issues with the shortened audio and the long video.

I must be blessed. I used Goldwave for years, then one day it went bonkers and would not even open vie .exe.... let alone accept a drag and drop(with no explanation or warning messages). Then all I did was download it again and and it's working perfectly. I've yet to get a concrete answer as to whether Goldwave is shareware, trialware or freeware.....or none of the above.

Really? I don't have it so I don't know. I like Audacity well enough. I was just going by the Goldwave page on this site which says it costs $50. Checking their site just now it says you get a free trial for a few days after which they want $49 for a lifetime subscription.

    Open the mp4 in AviDemux.
If it loads and plays ok, click 'Audio' on the left side menu and change it from 'Copy' to 'PCM'.
Click 'Audio' on the top menu and 'Save audio'.
Give it a name like audio.wav and save to the Desktop.
Exit and play the audio to test.
You can then go to the next step of cutting the audio or inserting silence or replacing the cut part with different audio.

I have Audacity as well. I use it sometimes, mainly to copy one (left or right) channel to two fake stereo channels. GoldWave is easier for me to understand. I do actual audio EDITING in programs designed for video.....like Magix Movie Edit. It's easier for me to SEE what I'm removing, adding or shifting around. I've always found audio "editors" confusing.....not sure why.

  11. Just to add a comment- Womble's MPEG Video Wizard has the capability to do what is wanted. Once the clip is in the application and put in the timeline, then use "Sound Line Editor" to make the audio level what is wanted or turn down to where it is unheard.
