Hey everyone, I have ran in the past that there have been times where I tried to burn a dvd that I would get an error message, but it seems to be coming up more and more often, at first I was using DVD Shrink 2.3 I just got DVD Shrink 3.2 and still get the same type of error messages. Here is the one I am currently getting,

    DVD 3.2

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

    Invalid DVD navigation structure"

    DVD 2.3

It gets about halfway and then I get the message,

" DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue this operation.

    invalid nv_pck:nv_vobu_ea

    The reason is: Unknown."

DVD Shrink is no longer being upgraded to include the latest encryption schemes. The creator of DVD Shrink went to work for Nero and a condition of his employment is that DVD Shrink be abandoned. The problem that you are experiencing will continue to happen more and more with DVD Shrink. Sony Arcos and other new encryption methods foil DVD Shrink.

An alternative is to use DVD Fab Decrypter, which is updated very regularly. There are two disadvantages with DVD Fab Decrypter. The first is that it doesn't shrink the DVD to fit a 4.7Gb disc. The other is that it uses a very agressive decryption scheme. IF you have a damaged disc, it ignores the errors. This can sometimes result in an unusable copy. I prefer to try DVD Shrink first and if it doesn't work, then I resort to DVD Fab Decrypter.

If you use DVD Fab Decrypter, you first rip the disc to your hard disc. This breaks the encryption and you can then use DVD shrink to read the file from your hard disc and shrink / burn it to a 4.7Gb disc.

I found that if I copy the entire DVD to my HD (I use AnyDVD) then use the the ripped DVD as the source in DVDShrink it works fine.

  8. Noahtuck pounced on two such posts just today, the post date must be the first thing he reads.

It does seem the grave robbers have been more active lately.

I started having this issue today, so I searched around to see if there was a solution. When I found what worked for me I posted it for the next guy.
