I am trying to convert a few Beta tapes to DVD, but my Beta player doesn't seem to be playing for some reason. Last time I used it, several months ago, it played fine. But now when I put in a tape, and press the Play button, I can hear the internal parts start to move, but then it stops. Like it tries to play the tape but can't for some reason. I tried 3 different tapes and the player can't play any of them. But the player does seem to be able to rewind and FF. Just can't play for some reason. Any idea why?

It may need a lube job, or some of the rubber parts may be too worn.
