  1. I use DVD Shrink to backup videos to hard disk folders (Video and Audio Folders) and Nero to recode to mp4 for my ipod. The files used to work fine on my computer, but now the video only has audio- no pictures. My cousin installed World of Warcraft, but there have been no other changes I can think of since then, other than a couple of tv streaming programs like streamtorrent, which I have since uninstalled. I've tried VLC, Nero Show Time, iTunes and Quicktime. Video has no picture. If loaded on my ipod, files work fine. Same files worked fine before with same software. In Device Manager, there are no problems detected (no yellow exclamations).

Computer is a Compaq Presario SR1830NX, few years old. 3500+ AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 1 GB RAM,
    Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

Does other video work? or just those mp4?

It could be a video overlay/hardware acceleration problem, like if you have two monitors/tvout be sure to set the one you use to the primary in the graphic settings.

  4. Thanks for the responses. Video only plays if it is internet browser based (Netflix Instant, Hulu, etc). We only have the one monitor (Sony Bravia tv) hooked up, so no multiple browsers. That has not changed and the videos used to play without a problem.

I'm not sure if world of warcraft made changes to the dirctx- how would I tell?

    Thank you!

  7. Problem fixed- sort of... I can now play mp4 files in both VLC (http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-1.0 ... _output.3F) and DivX Plus Player. I had to disable the overlay input in VLC to get the video to show up (see link). Thanks for all the help!

  8. I didn't see any DivX installed (and search of computer found nothing with "DivX") so I installed DivX and XVid from: http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.3
I tried to play a movie and it worked, so I tried another one and it did not. Now the first one won't play again either. So the problem appeared to be fixed for ~ 1 minute, but it is back to the original problem. I tried playing both mp4 and the audio/video folder formats for a few different videos in VLC and Nero Show Time.
