I recommend the WD TV devices if having a very small form factor and being able to play from USB (there is NO internal storage of any kind and no disc drive unless you attach one via USB) is important to you. However, they aren't necessarily the best at DVD playback. I don't use mine (the older WD TV HD unit, not the WD TV Live HD) for DVD playback at all. I did a little testing and it seemed to me that these just went to the main movie on the DVD and I wasn't able to make it go to the menu. DVD playback devices are much inferior for MKV and Divx playback though, so it's really hard to have a "one device for everything" solution. I use the WD TV for Divx/MKV/etc. playback and a DVD or BluRay player for DVD playback and it works great for me.

What I am looking for a good high quality reputable BluRay player for playing MKVs burnt on DVD DLs.
The LG BD390 looks pretty nice.
My caution against using DVD players for this purpose also applies to BluRay players. Don't come back bitching here if you buy it and you find that some of your MKVs won't play. DVD and BluRay players always have limitations in the firmware about what they will play for things like Divx and MKV.
