  1. I always assumed Avi OpenDML was primarily used for avi files bigger than 2000mb and in any case most hardware players will not playback a file of that size. I had an avi of 714mb and using Nero's overburning option of allowing an extra 12mb is read to maximum 715. Rather than risk burn failure I demuxed and remuxed the file in the excellent AVI_Mux. Now the file is OpenDML and 711mb. It plays okay on dvd player too.

    Is the file primarily still the same and what actually is missing sizewise? Thanks.

  2. Different programs use different padding chunk sizes to align data. One may align the video video stream at at 512 byte boundary, another might align them at a 4096 byte boundary, etc. This was originally done to make disk access easier but is of little consequence today. That is probably why your file sizes differ. If you want to examine the structure more closely VirtualDub's hex editor has a nice RIFF Chunk Tree view.
