    Hello folks,

I have a Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player and I would like to know if it is possible to play .avi files with subtitles in yellow? I have played .avi with .srt subtitles in white, but I really would like to play it in yellow as this color is better for visibility (I'm getting old!...).
As the manual states it can play subtitles in the following formats: .smi, .srt, .sub, .psb, .txt and .ass. Could someone help here?
If it's possible, could someone tell me the softwares needed for the work and how to accomplish this task? Thank you for your attention.

    See you later,

Only if there's a setting for it. I have a P1590, and I don't recall any options for changing the subtitle color, offhand (but then again, I'm apparently in one of the regions where the firmware doesn't support AVI playback... )

    They have .ass support?

Also, I should probably note that normal .srt doesn't support formatting options (including size, positioning, styles, colors). There's an unofficial variant that supports those through HTML codes, if I remember correctly, but it's probably unsupported by most set-top players.

    Hello folks,

My question is not limited to the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray playe. It is meant to any player. Any of the mentioned subtitle formats (.smi, .srt, .sub, .psb, .txt and .ass) could theoretically retain style information? Could the blu-ray player play it with style format?

    Hello folks,

Thank you darkknight145, but I don't want to convert the .avi file. I just want to play it "as is".

  6. .srt are text based, meaning they have no styling or color. The appearance will depend on the player or software and the options they give you

.ass have styling & color options. Since your device support this, it might be an option. Check out aegisub

    Hello folks,

I have just used Aegisub to convert my .srt file into a formated style subtitle .ass file. I tested the .ass file in Media Player Classic and it played OK with all styles I had formated it, but when I set the Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player to play the .avi file and the .ass file there is no style format. The Blu-ray player plays the .avi file and the .ass file, but using its own format (white letters without borders).
Well, I think there is no way to do what I wanted without having to convert the .avi file. Anyway, thank you all!

    See you later,
