I've favored Firefox for several iterations now, but I'm nonplussed (negatized?) by its slow startup, partly because of its recent handling of the constantly updating Java Console...
I looked in my Add-ons and found this whole darn list:
Java Quickstarter
Java Console 6.0.18
Java Console 6.0.17
Java Console 6.0.15
Java Console 6.0.14
Java Console 6.0.13
Java Console 6.0.11
Java Console 6.0.07
Java Console 6.0.04
Is this careless coding, or do I have something set wrong?

Hmm, I only have the Java Quickstarter 1.0 and Java Console 6.0.18 (just the java add-ons anyways)
As long as my computer hasn't just turned on my FF will open right away. But right when my computer turns on my girlfriend decides to try getting into FF wondering why it's taking so long.. it's just the anti-virus updating and a few other start up programs.
Are you trying to start FF right when your computer boots or does it take a while for it to open all the time??
If anything it shouldn't be too much of a hassle for you to uninstall it and do a fresh install. Just save your personal things such as saved passwords and bookmarks.
If you continue to have the problems after you reinstall then it could be a number of things. Maybe your other programs are hogging the ram, ect.... -
I had that happen on one of our systems in the house (XP), though it didn't have as many 'previous versions.' And it did eternally try to update them, even if I disabled the other Console instances (no idea what caused them to accumulate). I ended up opening the Add-Ons list, highlighting each of the earlier Consoles, and telling it to uninstall them. Seems to have worked, so far.
Do you have the anti-phishing options set? Any RSS feeds bookmarked? If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Thanks guys! I'm thinking it must have something to do with having multiple browsers (IE & Chrome also) installed, and the Norton 360 going into the browser cop business. I do have Firefox set as the default browser, but it is usually not the first thing I open.

If you have had your current setup for a while and installed multiple Java updates this will happen. Java for the longest time would leave each old version of the runtime installed (visible in add/remove). They finally fixes this and it usually uninstalls the old version first now. Unfortunately the browser plugins still pile up one on top of the other instead of deleting the old one.
