Well, Weekend is over, so my tests for now.

Tmpgenc 2.53 plus change anything we know for tmpgenc....

You can not tweak any setting of the program anymore to increase the quality.
Smaller gops like: IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB or even IBPB, simply add noise to your output file! You can get the best possible quality, by simply using the default IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB structure.

DC Component Precision also, now works as it has to:
8 bits for VCD and CVD/SVCD creation
9 bits for DVD/D2 creation with an average of 3000kb/s
10 bits for DVD creation with an average of 4500kb/s or more

Use 10 bit for CVD/SVCD, and you get blured output....

For low resolution xSVCD, let say 352 X 288 (like sefy's SxVCD), you don't have to de-interlace anymore. Let the encoder do that. De-interlace odd or even field, reduce dramatically the sharpness.

The Sharpen edge filter now can't be used in an extreme way, like ver 2.51 and 2.52.
If your source is full CCIR - 601 or D1 (broadcast) resolution, you can set it up to 120 both. But if your source is lower (DVB transmissions), you can't set it more than 84 both. More sharpness creates noise. Bad noise, believe me...

There are audio problems with this version. Even using TooLame, there are strange hiss and pops on the output... I hope for a fix here soon

There are quality problems when you use it with DVD2avi. I didn't find solution for this yet.
Let me explain: If you use dvd2avi and you frameserve to tmpgenc, the output have for some reason a "curtain" in picure. Something like blurness, I don't know. There are no blocks at all (using an average of 1850 with SVCD produce no blocks at all with the new 2 pass vbr), but there is something like blurness. load the same file direct to tmpgenc, and this blurness disappears. Maybe, tmpgenc now handdles different some default setting of dvd2avi? I don't know!

About speed, I think 2.53 is slower 2.51! Also, needs more memory now. There must be a bug here...

Overall, TMPGenc 2.53 plus is one of the best tmpgenc versions ever, but your old templates and tricks ain't working anymore. Also, 2.52 and 2.51 are slighty faster.
I don't recomment this version to newbies or non advance users. I suggest to use 2.51 plus.

Let see now what 2.54 shall bring us this week....
