  1. Ok so I accidentally deleted some video files from my sd card so I downloaded an sd card undelete tool and everything looked good upon recovery. I'd like to mention that nothing was added to the card after deleting the files so I assme nothing was copied over the deleted files... I hope that makes sense..
    But now when I try to play the files in media player classic, which might I add has always played these types of files for me before, I get this error for all of the recovered video'

    C:\Users\Dave\Desktop\_UNP0040.mpg.AVI::Output

    Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I lost some very important footage.
    Thanks in advance

  2. I believe the codecs are Real Media. Be sure the Real source filter and codecs are enabled in MPC. View -> Options -> Internal Filters...

    The real media box is checked, how do I enable the real codecs though?

  4. To the right of the Source Filters box is the Transform Filters box. That contains the codecs. Make sure Real Audio and Real Video are enabled. If that doesn't work you may need to install Real Alternative or Real Player (to get the required codecs).

    Why is your file named _UNP0040.mpg.AVI? Is it really an AVI file? It's very uncommon to see Real Audio and Real Video in an AVI container. It should probably be .RM or RMVB instead of .AVI or .MPG. Open your file with MediaInfo and see what it says about it.

    Yes they're avi files, this camera always records in this format.
    Any other suggestions?

  6. Can you still play other videos from the same camera? If so, then your files are probably corrupt. Undelete programs often screw up.

    Yes new movies play fine. Is there a good free undelete program that actually works? Like i mentioned I havent copied over the deleted files yet.

  8. Ok so I finally found software that shows some results but nothing near what I need . It's called digital video repair v2.1, it scans and repairs the avi file but when I play it, only the very first bit of it plays, maybe a second worth of video.
    Any suggestions would really help here

  9. The problem has to do with the way the FAT file system works. Undelete programs can only find the first allocation unit (usually 4 KB to 32 KB depending on the size of the drive) of a deleted file for sure. They have to make guesses about the rest of the file. Your undelete program guessed wrong.
