  1. OK- Under 300.00 bucks U.S. funds and really only have a few "musts" as in Must be able to play divx/xvid, play NTSC as well as PAL. Would prefer new player have a USB slot to save on CDRW/DVDRW discs. We don't own an HDTV set yet so

My old & dying player is a Phillips DVP642 which has served me well but is now not worth the effort it takes to play a DVD (long story but involves screwdriver and underside of player)

    any suggestions are certainly appreciated.

    Thx in advance.

  3. The Philips DPP 5990 and 5992 are pretty easy to get, inexpensive, better and more flexible than the DVP 640. And yes, the Pioneer 640 is liked by a lot of people.

You might also consider something like the WDTV Live (no DVD playback but SD and HD Divx/Xvid/h.264 from USB drives and networks) for your Divx/Xvid needs. Other media players to look at are the Boxee Box and PopBox HD.
