How do I Redo Subtitles of TV series on DVD and delete dubbing

Hello. I'm here because I bought dvds of a foreign (read: Asian) tv series and the english subtitling was good up until the last four episodes where it seems like the manufacturers decided to let Wookies do the translatations. Thankfully there are fans out there who have put up their .srt files for download. I have copied all of the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files from each of eight discs to my hard drive and I would like to redo the subtitling. Also, there is really horrific dubbing that I would like to get rid of, if possible. I'm not familiar at all with any of the terminology used here, but if someone could give me guidance on how to redo the show with the correct subtitling, I would appreciate it.

Background info and questions:

The .srt files I found on the internet are split into seven different files. I'm not sure if each file starts at 00:00:00, but I suspect that they do. Does this mean I need to combine or edit them to match the videos breaks on the DVDs?

The files I copied from the DVDs are all vob files, along with some other files like IFO and BUP. Do I need to convert or do anything to these files in order to redo the subtitles?

This is what I would like to accomplish:

1. Delete the horrible dubs
2. Replace the English subs on the discs with the .srt files I downloaded.
3. Burn new DVDs - it doesn't have to have all the menu options of the original DVDs as long as the new subtitling is burned onto the video.

Open them in Notepad and see. Are you sure each isn't a complete episode? One wouldn't think that a single episode would be divided into 7 separate SRT files.

You need to do a lot. To begin with, you need to demux. Baldrick's guide should walk you through it. I prefer his method 2:

As for the audio dub track, just don't remux it when you get to the Muxman step. Later on you might want to go to the setup or audio menu and disable the button (PGCEdit) so the now missing audio can't be clicked on.

I just checked the srt files and you're right, they aren't broken up into seven parts but are in different formats:

X264 HAN 450p
X264 HAN 450p v2
X264 HAN 720p
XVID ENTAL
XVID ENTAL v2

I'm not sure what the difference is between those files. Is there a certain one I should use?

You probably have to go through each one manually (i.e. play it back) and see which one matches your version in terms of timing. They might be from different theatrical cuts, for example

I have a question about demux-ing(?):

There are two episodes of the tv show per dvd. I've figured out that VTS_01_1 and VTS_01_2 are Episode 13 and VTS_01_3 and VTS_01_4 are Episode 14.

Based on the demux method 2, the assumption seems to be that there is one main VOB file, but since I have two sets of two files that comprise one episode each, how would I demux them and add the new subtitling if there is only one srt file?

I'm not sure I'm phrasing my question correctly, but I appreciate all the help. I can do a print screen so you can see what I'm looking at, but first I have to figure out how to post it.

There are two episodes of the tv show per dvd. I've figured out that VTS_01_1 and VTS_01_2 are Episode 13 and VTS_01_3 and VTS_01_4 are Episode 14.

That's not how it works. Each episode won't be comprised of exactly 2 VOBs. Open the IFO and use the drop-down box of PGCDemux to demux each episode to its own folder. Using your way of figuring, what do you reckon the VTS_01_5.VOB is? If you play it (double-click on it), you'll see it's the tail end of the second episode most likely.

By the way, fix your computer so you can see the extensions. You can't see the .VOB (except under the 'Type' heading to the right). And there's no need to upload big BMPs when small JPGs will serve just as well.
