  1. Greetings

I pretend to convert both an avi file + its .srt subtitles to a DVD PAL format with subtitles incorporated. Unfortunately the results have been all bad.

Both the AVI video (mediainfo.txt) and its respective subtitles (GARBAGE_WARRIOR.srt) are in NTSC format (24fps).

This is the sequence of my experiences trying to do so:

1st log (1st_NTSC.log) - referes to a conversion not using avysynch (NTSC to PAL) which I though it wouldn't report any error, because the original format would be preserved (NTSC to NTSC) but it did... some errors with the audio convertion (no-channel-layout.jpg) but passed, and then stucked with the subtitles (process aborted during title 1 SUBS encoding operations).

2nd log (2nd_PAL.log) - Now I'm testing with avysynch so the resulting format will be PAL. Error again when reaching subtitles conversion (process aborted during title 1 SUBS encoding operations). Should I convert the subtitles first to a 25fps (PAL) format?

3rd log (3rd_no_sound_and_subtitles.log) - I used Subtitle edit to convert the subtitles to 25 fps (PAL) and checked the following options:
AVStoDVD preference > Avisynth > Use PAL SpeedUP fot NTSC-film to PAL (check)
edit title > avisynth > auto avisynth script (check).

The video encoding was perfect, but when reaching the audio convertion it seemed it was going to be stuck (aparently stuck on audio conversion.jpg). It continue with sucess, authoring, everything seemed perfect, none message of error.

The result was a VOB folder (perfect video), but no audio and no subtiltes... and none message of error...

I'm stucked in an alley not knowing what to do next.

    Thanks in advance.

Patience, please. This is a global community, and sometimes the people who can best answer your question aren't awake when you post. We ask that you wait at least 24 hours before bumping your own post. Posting on a weekend can also mean having to wait longer, as people may not spend as much time on-line. Then there was that whole end of the world thing . . . .

The author of avstodvd does follow these posts, so there is a good chance he will see this at some point soon. In the meantime you should also post which version of AVStoDVD you are using (it doesn't seem to be included in the logs), and consider upgrading if you aren't using the latest version. A mediainfo text view of the source files would also help.

  4. My friend Guns, I just asked if Anyone was out there because I knew that the chances of being seen would substancially rise if there was more than one post in the statistics, not impatience (well... a tinny litle winny - I knew also the weekend stuff), my avaliation of this site, its members and participants is no more less than excelent. Not to mention that I've found solutions for every problem i've had. As I am still a little clumsy threading (lack of experience) sometimes I feel I didn't post correctly something on its proper field, therefore the Pink Floydish Is "Anyone out there".

I have the later version of AVStoDVD. And here it goes the video information (mediainfo.txt)
Thank you and have a nice weekend!

  7. There are that many people believing seriously in this, like a general mobilization or hollyday sort of phenomena?... gee

  8. After several experiences I got to a solution.
Reviewing my primary goal: to convert both avi and srt (both NTSC format) to a PAL DVD format using AVStoDVD

    The Audio question:

Tthis hypothesis was already mentioned on another thread, it resulted quite good:
I Installed this encoder (ffdshow_rev3814_20110411_clsid) downloaded at FFDShow site. Perfect video and perfect audio synchronization. I think not havig installed FFDShow encoders caused the flaws of no audio and visible subtitles (could be also some font not accpeted, but I'm more inclined to the correlation audio-subtitle)
    Thank you MrC!

    The Subtitle question:

I only converted the subtitle format to PAL (originally NTSC ~24fps), not touching the original video format (NTSC ~24fps) next puting both as they were to AVStoDVD conversion.

    So:

    original subtitles (srt / 24 / NTSC)
    original video (avi / 24 / NTSC)

    data inserted on AVStoDVD:

    converted subtitles to PAL (25)
    kept untouched video (NTSC)

    AVStoDVD configurations:

    - PAL
    - Use PAL SpeedUp for NTSC-film to PAL - check

    The result was perfect.

    CASE CLOSED

    Cheers
