How much space is used by System Restore in WinXP Pro, and can that space be freed up by disabling System Restore? I began using WinXP Pro about 4 months ago, and it has grown from the initial 6.2GB to 9.3GB already compared ti Win2k that grew from initial 2.0GB to 4.2GB but took 9 years to grow that much. My 20GB partition that WinXP is installed on will be full in less than 2 years if WinXP continues to grow at this rate.

  3. Default is 12% of your HDD. You can adjust the percentage in XP or disable it altogether.

  4. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup -> More Options... will give you the option to remove old restore point data.

right click your C: drive in windows explorer and choose properties
on the General tab click the "Disk Cleanup" button
after it runs it's little diagnostic (can take a while depending on drive size and PC speed) the "Disk Cleanup" dialog will open
    click the "More Options" tab
at the bottom section under "System Restore" it says "You can free more disk space by removing all but the most recent restore point." - click the "Clean up..." button and do just what it says.

Perhaps set a "good" restore point first.

Removing old restore point data freed up 800MB going from 9.3GB down to 8.5GB space used on OS partition which is a significant amount. Thanks guys for the helpful info.
