I recently burned a copy of a movie i have to a dvd and when i try to play it on my tv it cuts off a large amount from the sides but when i play it on my computer ( through the dvd) it comes out perfectly fine. I played with all the zoom functions on my tv and can't get it to fit right. Any ideas?

Overscan - look it up in the glossary, then do a search for the term to get solutions.

Overscan shouldn't cut out large parts of the film, more like 3-5% and most if not all movies and shows compensate for it,most likely the way video was encoded thats the problem.

It shouldn't, but there have been a few TVs shown here that cut a lot of screen off. There have also been people who swear that that lots of the screen has been cut off when in reality it has only been the normal few %.

It could also be a DVD player that has been set to P&S widescreen footage, or a piss poor conversion that cut the edges off.

Given that the DVD plays to full width on the computer, it is unlikely the latter.
