  1. Sometimes, I notice that my programs have their icon pictures missing. i.e. Adobe usually has the red icon for Adobe reader, but it shows a strange window with no picture. Anyone know what causes this and how to get back to original icon picture?

You can try this: R click on the 'strange' icon in your main menu and select 'properties'. Click 'Change Icon' at the bottom. If you have a Adobe Reader icon on your system, browse to that and select that icon. It should replace the 'strange' one.

What happens is that Windows loses the link to the icon image, so it uses a generic one, no idea why that happens.

You don't really need an icon for Adobe Reader as it should be in all your context menus and just clicking on a PDF file will automatically run the program. Besides, Adobe Reader is major bloatware and a resource hog. I use the freeware Foxit PDF reader and it uses a lot less HDD space and is faster than Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

There is a control panel applet called "TweakUI" which has many tweaks for Windows. One of them is "REBUILD ICONS". This is what I use whenever my icons lose their minds.

Search for TWEAKUI133.EXE for this applet. It is all over the net.
