Plz move to the relevant forum, Thank You.

My friend (doesnt have the internet) cant watch AVI's on her computer. Her Media Player just says "Codec Missing". BOTH the Windows Media player and the VLC player actually PLAY the video, but you cant see it. Yet you can hear it. How can I help get the codec she needs on to her computer?

Try media player classic - it also has internal codecs.

The other issue might be hardware acceleration. Try turning it on or off. It would be in control panel for windows computers under display. Go to settings, advanced, then troubleshoot and the hardware accelerater slider is there (should be but might be different depending on the type of graphics card it is).

Also you could try downloading the latest drivers for the graphics display on a seperate computer and installing them on the other computer.

--- it could also be some kind of video overlay issue - but I'm not too familiar with that.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Don't you mean MPCHC? I thought MPC depended more on the system codecs/filters than it did its own.

UmmAddan: Try opening two instances of one of the players - Windows Media Player, for example, and play a movie in both of them. Can you see the video correctly in one instance of the player? If so, it's likely an overlay problem.

I though hc was just a more high def friendly version of mpc? I had always been under the impression either mpc was like vlc in that it had its own codecs?

I believe (though I could be wrong, and probably am ) that clsid's been merging in his work with ffdshow, so MPCHC has more internal filters/codecs than MPC.

Mpc has built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec but mpchc also has additional video decoders including H.264 and VC-1 with DXVA support.
