I was and still am using WMP10 with the required codecs installed as all my files used to play on my laptop. Now, only the audio will play back and the screen comes up blacked out on just about every video playback program I have on my laptop.
I have previously played a wide range of file formats:
wma, avi, mpg, mpeg, etc in WMPv10
vob (DVD from folder or disc) in InterVideo WinDVD
video files form my Topfield PVR, and all above mentioned file types, in VLC media player.
All of my programs will not show the video, only audio, except for pinnacle Studio 10 editing software - which to date is the only program I could get to display video. Even VLC no longer works.
I have tried unstalling all programs (including codecs - Xvid, DivX , etc) and reinstalling programs one by one but still I have no video. I have totally removed Pinnacle Studio but still no programs will play video - VLC still won't work.
Can anyone offer a method to fix this problem as so far the only fix seems to be a fresh install of WinXP...
Cheers Ligedy

Overlay / hardware acceleration problem. Check your graphics card settings and see if you can change any such settings and be sure to set your laptop monitor to the primary display.
