  1. Morning,

Wonder if anybody can help me.

I am looking to add an intro similar to the beginning of the film Snatch. Where they take a frame of film, freeze it and make it look like a drawn picture.

I have seen lots of people do this on Youtube so there must be a program which does it. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    Russ

    Google "cartoonize"

Lots of sites that do this online.

MSU's cartoonizer is one for video: http://compression.ru/video/cartoonizer/index_en.html
For stills, Photoshop has a bunch of 'artistic' filters than can do that. Maybe one like 'charcoal' or 'chalk' or similar. Probably similar filters for freeware graphics programs.

http://compression.ru/video/cartoonizer/index_en.html is a simple Vdub filter. With curves you could restrict the effect to a single frame.

However for something like the Snatch credits, you would export the frame you wanted as a still image, load it into photoshop, mask it, adjust the curves, de-saturate and hue adjust it, then edit it back in as needed.

So? You only need to cartoonize one frame.

    Screencap, cartoonize, splice back in.

If you watch the Snatch video, and any video that does this type of effect, it shows on the screen for far longer than a single frame. So when you put it back, you need to be able to do so in a way that allows you to set a duration for that clip.

Sounds like russ is doing some cool projects, after what appears to be a long hiatus from the hobby. Hey man, good luck on them all.

Well, freezeframe. The point is you only need to apply the effect once.

Easy enough to put all this into an Avisynth script.
