this lady was first told that if she wished to sing as she stocked shelves were she works, she would need a performance license, there was a furor when word got out, the PRS decided it didn't want the negative publicity and decided to apologize.Sandra Burt, 56, who works at A&T Food store in Clackmannanshire, was warned she could be fined for her singing by the Performing Right Society (PRS).
However the organisation that collects royalties on behalf of the music industry has now reversed its stance.
They have sent Mrs Burt a bouquet of flowers and letter of apology
now there are some things to note: this happened in scotland and the PRS did reverse itself, but we are seeing similar trends here in the U.S, though it's not quite that bad yet.

They are getting WAY out of hand over there in the UK. What is being done to harass "the average Joe with a camera or video cam" taking pictures in public places is even more absurd than this.

At least an American judge had the good sense to rule that a ringtone is not a public performance.

Yep...I was informed if the bldg is recognizable...you'll need a release
I've discovered you can easily get individual personal releases by simply taking wee little itty bitty baby steps with their fragile egos...but it probably depends what you're shooting out there -
now many big cities also have extensive networks of surveillance cameras
