  1. "I got Mothman Prophecies in AVI downloaded from the net. And since it has pretty poor quality as they usually do I didnt really feel like wasting 2 cds on it"

What they you mean that AVI's downloaded from the net usually have poor quality?!

Most AVI's of movies downloaded from the net are excellent quality!! why are you bad-mouthing AVI's!!!

note: if you just meant that the quality AVI's of movies in "cam" format are poor, then please ignore the above, because usually dvdrips and even screeners in avi format are great quality!!

  2. Actually I would rather agree with him, I dislike AVI quality from downloaded movies, but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect yours. if you find the quality of the AVI to your satisfcatory, that is your choice.

  3. So, basically you are saying that AVI's are the worst quality you have ever seen? Most DVD rip AVI's that I have seen are really good...almost as good as SVCD's.... Also, when I convert them to MPEG2 SVCD, I can barely tell the difference.

  5. Dont put words in my mouth, I never said "AVI's are the worst quality", i've said "I dislike AVI quality from downloaded movies", and for justified reasons, most downloaded movies quality sucks! on a rare occasion you might find someone who actually took the time to optimize the encoding, but then, the file size is like 700 or 800mb, and personaly, at those sizes, I rather have VCD, no matter how good quality the AVI might be, it's just not worth it.

And encoding from a DivX (and you can read about it all over the forums) is not an easy task, and takes longer then ripping a DVD, and has a whole lot of other minuses.

I also said "everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect yours" and I would like you to respect mine, even if you don't agree with my view.

  6. I was not trying to disrespect your opinion, I have never said that you are wrong or that I disagree. I just wanted you to elaborate on why you hate avi's downloaded from the net. But, you could have been a little less condescending when you replied to my first post. Anyway... I have always thought that dvd rip divx files were one of the more decent file formats when compared to others. In the "comparison" section of this site, it says that DivX files are "great" quality as well. Also, I thought most dvd rip avi's are around 700-800 megs anyway? Obviously, when you rip a dvd, the quality would be better if you made it an svcd mpeg2 or something, but wouldn't it still be pretty decent if you made it a divx avi file?

Sorry if you thought that I wasn't respecting your opinion.

  7. My apologies eze, it's just I don't like when someone says things that I didn't say and says I said them, I miss interperted your intention.

Regarding your question, my only problem with DivX is the fact it's not as portable as VCD, you are stuck playing it on your PC, and since most PC's are not in the living room, then it's not as fun as watching.

For me, quality isn't the biggest issue, it's more the company and how you watch the movie, it's like going to the Cinema, you have the cinema experience, you can never have that at home, same is with watching on the TV with family and friends, you can't compare that to watching on the PC.

Regarding quality of DivX, yes, it can be good, but for me, it won't be good enough to replace even VCD.
