Go here : https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub and start looking through the guides. Then, when you have some specific questions, come back and ask them.
If you want help, this is the place to get it, but you need to show that you have done some of the leg work yourself and are willing to put in the time.Read my blog here.

Ok i see a brightness / contrast filter- now all i need to figure out is how that gets in filter/plugin(?) thingy of vdub and still searching for a nice simple vdub instruction guide so far all i see is answers to questions and very clueless with all that but still searching about - oh well - later . .
-
Brightness/contrast is a built in filter. Just add it with Video -> Filters -> Add -> Brightness/contrast, then adjust the sliders.
1) File -> Open Video File
2) Video -> Filters -> Add (and configure filters)
3) Video -> Compression (select and configure compression)
4) File -> Save as AVI -
For filters, I like: http://www.thedeemon.com/VirtualDubFilters/ A bit easier than Neuron's site to navigate. There is also a 'filter pack' there of most commonly used VD filters. Try Colormill. It has several filters all in one package. You just add the .vdf files to your VD plugins folder to use the filters.
VD is easy enough to figure out for the basics. It's very versatile. I prefer VD Mod most times as I like it's audio handling a bit better. You will probably want to add a couple of video codecs, XviD Codec and lagarith are two popular ones. And I would add the Lame MP3 codec for audio as it has more settings than the one included with VD. Also handy is the stand-alone program, Audacity to work with the audio. -
Ok dang i can t find VDub on my start menu so what now and can i use Vdub with torrents and if so how, i first use utorrent , then Convert X to burn to a dvd, i like to lighten up a couple of torrents that are to dark before burning to a dvd so how do i do that - thanks a bunch . .
-
VirtualDub doesn't create its own Start Menu entry - you just unzip the archive and use it. You can create a Start Menu entry for it, if you want.
Torrents are NOT video files. They're downloads, and can be virtually anything, such as a Linux LiveCD .iso disc image, or someone's Microsoft Word documents. VirtualDub only works with certain types of videos. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Ok got ya, hum if i use Vdub to brighten up a movie before i burn it what folder does it get saved to i don t see that and their seems to be different speeds at which dub does its thing, what should i click on to get the best video enhancement theirs a whole bunch to click on in the bottom left and its confusing for me - thanks - -
-
Ok just tryed to lighten up a back and white movie thats to dark and i
don t see any inprovement in the new copy ! , what are the 0 to 1700 numbers for ? and what happens if a video goes all the way to the right but still has time left to play ? and does the enhanced copy get saved to a new folder or does the enhanced copy replace the old copy, i guess they both can t be saved ! ? And lastly can i place the old copy and the enhanced version side by side to see if theirs a real difference i tryed to by no enhanced copy came up and don t see any VD instruction manual so far no luck, need more help - thanks a bunch . . -
Ok dang just tryed it again and all i get is the imput window and no output window so i don t have any idea if its working so what now hum - thanks .

-
You don't need an older version. This functionality hasn't changed in eons. File -> Save as AVI.
-
Ok oh well guess i ll just keep playing with it i wonder if theirs a better search thingy i can use for vista the one that comes with vista stinks it keeps missing a bunch - thanks . .
-
VD will save to the last place it was set for. Just open any video in it and click 'Save as AVI' and you will see where it went.
-
Yeah, but where's "Public"? You need to use the pulldown to see the entire path.
-
Ok still here and searching now i ve lost 2 videos on the hard drive and can t find umn yet but i have figured out how to run the in and out together so i can see whats working oh well byee for now back to the search . .
-
Ok trying a new idea on a new video, when i try to view the in and out panes to make sure its working the video freezes after 10 seconds and
won t move yuk, so whats that about and whats the fix and still have two VD videos missing can t find them yet assuming dub did its thing - later and still need help . . . -
Ok its an Video Clip (.avi) that freezes up on me after 10 secs and its very annoying - -
-
I haven't seen lockups with AVI files very often. It sounds like your file is corrupt.
-
Hum not sure , the file plays great in the window media player so its pretty weird i ve 3/4 other avi files guess i ll try them then let you know then go from their oh well its never easy . .
-
Very strange just tryed 2 more avi videos and its strange, i can play the in pane but not the out, then i try just the out and it won t play but if i move it up 5 secs they will both play for 10/15 secs then if stops dead but strangely all three play fine in the Win media player so not sure what that means will try playing it all the way in my dvd player, the maybe delete then reload V D a new copy then try again ! ? Any ideas - thanks . .

Computer players are more forgiving about errors in video files than converters will be - they'll ignore errors, and if they're small enough, you might not notice they're there just from watching the video.
VirtualDub isn't meant to be a player. It may not always play a video correctly. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Try this:
Open a video with VirtualDub. Hold down a shift key while moving the frame slider back and forth along the time line. Does it lock up?
