    I've just encoded a movie usinf DIVX CONVERTER w/ 1080p HD profile. When I try to play it on my laptop using Divx Player the movie freezes when I select the subtitles. When trying to play the movie @ my PS3 I cannot select the subtitles. Why? Any solution to this?

    I don't recommend using Divx Converter. You have no ability to set any options with this. I don't know if it can even produce output that has subtitles in it.

    Divx Player has NEVER supported subtitles and that's still true unless something has changed with the current player.

    Divx has its own subtitle format Jman98, search the tools section for "xsub" and it works perfectly.

    AVIAddXSubs or AviSub

    have you upgrade your ps3 so it plays the divx xsub format?

    Thanks, I guess but
    1) I don't care, not even a little bit.
    2) That still doesn't refute my claim that Divx Player cannot play subs.

    Not that I'd use DivX Player, but... if it supports DivX Ultra features, it should support xsubs.

  6. Divx Player (Windows version) also supports SRT subs. I hardly ever use it of course.

    PS3's handling of subs is very poor. No external subs support at all. Not tried embedded subs. I tend to stream most material to the PS3, so I transcode subbed material on the fly and the PS3 just sees video and has no problems.

    when in doubt.....

    2- divx player can play subs (xsubs).

    I dont use divx, used to, it worked perfectly when i converted some dvds with ther divx converter or drdivx software, if the ps3 is divx certified it will play the xsub format it doesnt have to be ultra certified, ultra is only if you want t o play divx menus and chapters.

    see my post here: (i know you dont care)

    @RJARR
    What was your source? encode just the video and use any of those 2 programs i mentioned to mux in the subs but from my past experience i never had any problem with and you get better looking subs using the xsub format as you can custimize colours, borders, position etc with srt and the likes you're stuck to how each player renders them.

    To me that use subs a lot xsub works better than srt etc on divx certified players like the PS3
