I'm trying to capture video from my Tv to my Pc.
The device I'm using is "Kworld Expert dvd Maker Usb2800.
I always use the normal Rca cables to capture composite-video. This works fine.
But I believe now that the picture quality is better if you use the s-video function.
I have bought the cable to do this. It's a yellow RCA out from my tv to s-video usb device.
I have got 3 different software programs on my Pc to use for capturing the video.
On all programs I do change the option from composite to s-video, but no picture.
Why is this happening?
It only works when I go back to capture composite-video, this includes changing the cables
again.
Can somebody please help me?
Thank you
John

Never going to happen using such cable ... you would require a device capable of converting rca input to svideo output correctly.
Ive not seen a tv with svideo output yet, rca yes. -
Thanks for the reply.
So it must be an s-video out(tv) & in(Usb device)
Or my device must be able to convert the video signal.
It looks like I'll be stuck with the composite-video.
The picture quality is ok.
Thanks -

They made the same thing in 12-foot and 25-foot lengths (likely the old numbers are AP002 and AP003). Not made any more, they've been replaced by really cheap stuff. This is the closest thing I've seen to s-video quality in a composite wire. I must still have 10 of them lying around or in use. I last bought some on Amazon for $13 each:

AR also made the PRO-II series, twice the price but oddly soft image. I threw my Pro-II's away.
Don't go to a store and get Monster Cable (horrible color, blotchy cyan in shadows, noisy red, etc.). Belkin, Dynex, store brands, $4 wonders from "economy" cable shops, silver-plated overpriced SuperCyberJoyRide Coax, etc...I've tried all of them, from $2 to $200, and I keep going back to these old AR's. Also found some on eBay just recently, brand new. One seller had only 3 left, I bought all 3.
The other composite I use is nearly as good, not quite the same image punch but a far cry from the junk sold in stores. These are made from broadcast-grade wire and the kinds of non-gold 75ohm connectors used in video shops. I've used a lot of their wire and ended up throwing away some of their very expensive competitors. These seem to look a little cleaner than the AR's with really damaged tapes, which often have too much low-level noise. You won't be disappointed here (Belden 1694A. That's "Belden", not "Belkin", which is junk):

For HD-source coming from a TV, even if composite output is closer to SD color gamut, you'll probably like Belden better with its slightly lower capacitance at higher bandwidths.
Yeah, I know, you can get snobby about it and pooh-pah anything with "composite" on it. But when that's what you have to deal with, at least deal with it using good wire and connections. You'd be amazed at the difference. I've used old AR's and these Beldens for over 5 years thru VCR's and other components, with old VHS, old DVD's, old video players of every kind. These have never let me down.Last edited by sanlyn; 20th Mar 2014 at 11:06.
