  1. I would like to add chapters to an AVI using virtualdubmod. this has the "import chapter" function.

I wanna know how to do that, in the sense that, IF its done with a text file, I'd like to see an example file for such a text file.

I can't find that info here, and the examples ive tried also failed. theres nothing in the help.

    Background:
My DVD player also reads AVI, so I usually burn the files as files, in normal data format, not in DVD format. With the similiar named subs i can watch it just like a regular dvd. the player has a usb thing, so i usually don't even burn them. but watch them from the stick.

    Avi doesn't supports chapters.

I guess you just can use the chapters when you output as mkv using Virtualdubmod. See http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/vdubmod-procedures.htm how to use it.

But your dvd player probably doesn't supports mkv then...

So if you really want chapters you can try make a .divx using a divx authoring tool like DivX Author, DivXMediaBuilder and it might work on your dvd player if it's divx certified.
