  1. I've followed the guide step-by-step with several different avi files but when I put the CD in the DVD player it can not read the disk. Please help me out.. what might I be doing wrong?
Does this require a certain type of CDR?
    Are only some avi's burnable?

Please speak slowly.. I'm very new to this

  2. hi, you can't play a avi-file in a dvd-player (standalone). you can them play on your pc with a software-player like bs-player, power-dvd,etc.

  4. I'm having the same problems but i posted it under hardware, not sure if it's the way i'm autoring/burning it or my DVD player it's self....here's my post on the hardware section....
"Under the DVD Player Compatibility List, A lot of ppl or the majority seem to have gotten TDK CD-R's ( not sure wat size but i'm using 650/74min discs ) to work. But it's different for me it works on my pc (of course) but not my Samsung DVD 611.

(followed instructions from the HOW TO Author Section for Divx to Vcd)
I was wondering how u got ur samsung dvd 611 to work with CD-R's ?
i used nero 5.5.7.2 to burn the vcd, TMPGEnc-2.02.31.119 for converting avi - mpg (vcd format) and VirtualDub-1_4_8 for extracting and uncompressing the sound.

But i keep getting the "no disc" message. Did u have to use some kinda firmare or something? Thanx if u can help! "

  6. First off, thanks for replying guys.. i appriciate the help!

Ok, I went home last night and tried again and I'll give you the step-by-step of what I did.
    1. I used a short (20mins) but high quality (185mb) .avi file
    2. Followed the All-In-One (http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm) guide word for word, letter for letter.
    3. Downloaded the programs suggested (VirtualDub, TMPGEnc , VCDEasy)
    4. VCDEasy log reported no errors
    5. Put CD into DVD player... "NO DISK"
    UGH

I'm using a SCSI Smart and Friendly 8x CD Burner (highly rated b4 the went out of biz) and a Sony standalone DVD which states DVD/CD/VideoCD right on the front. Again, any help is much appreciated!

  7. Hi I was just reading through your post and its occured to me that that even though your DVD player states it plays VCDs (and im sure it does), it probably doesnt read CDr disks (not all do ).You could try CDRW and if that dont work , then your player doesnt support these media .Check your manual , it wont state this prob on the player its self.Hope this helps let me know if it does.
doent know why its doing that mate.......it worked ok on my system??????????????? dave!

at least give it a try.....
if your to lazy to go to circuit city or if they ran out
just click on the link in my earlier post.....
but its cheaper a circuit city....

I'll give that a try as well. It chews me up that I have $1000's worth of equipment and I still can't do what a crappy Imac can do.
