I was wondering if anyone here has used the Sanyo VPC-WH1, and if they have any comments on it, good or bad?

    http://ca.sanyo.com/Dual-Cameras/VPC-WH1-Waterproof-HD-Digital-Video-720p-30fps-

My Sony TRV-110 is now 11 years old and has been a real workhorse for me, but I'm starting to look into a replacement. I have the SportPak which lets me take the camera underwater and out on the lake which I regularly do.

The VPC-WH1 is waterproof so that avoids having to purchase a new housing, is much smaller and not buoyant (which makes the filming that I typically do easier). I like the 30X optical zoom. On the down side, it uses AVCHD, which is more difficult to edit, but that seems to be the way everything is going so I'd have to deal with that regardless sooner or later. The other issue is its only 720p, but I'm not a fan of BlueRay anyway and not intending at this point to get a BlueRay player or burner anytime soon.

I do not have much experience with Sanyo products, so nay comments are appreciated.

  2. it is only advertised as waterproof to 10 feet. to be safe maybe don't go deeper than 5 feet. i'v seen reports of leakage into the cam from the deep end of a pool. other than that for $370 u.s., it is supposed to be an ok little cam.

I won't be going much below 5' and only for a short time, so the depth is fine. My existing housing is rated for 6 feet, but you'd need to strap lead to it if you wanted to hold it below 2 or 3 feet for more than a few seconds.

So you say there were reports of leakage, hmmm. I suppose its likely people going below the 10' mark, but I'll have to watch and see if there is a trend.

    Thanks
