  1. Has anyone updated to the latest firmware v1.2 for the Sanyo VPC-HD2000 camcorder? If you've, do you notice any difference before and after the update. BTW, is it possible to backup the original firmware beforehand? TIA!

  2. I've updated to 1.2. At the time I had 2 Sanyo HD2000's around. One brand new with 1.2 installed and one from a friend with 1.1.

When I compared the two, the Sanyo with 1.2 had a quicker white balance adjustment and the colors looked more neutral, where the one with 1.1 had a much slower white balance adjustment and had a more yellowish cast.

Also the amount of noise when recording in the dark looked to be reduced with the new firmware (with noise reduction off). It did seem like the Sanyo with 1.2 preferred lowering the shutter speed where the Sanyo with 1.1 preferred bumping up the ISO.

I don't know how one could backup the current firmware, but installing the 1.2 firmware is very easy. Just make sure you have a good SD card, a charged battery and the power supply at hand. Reset your camcorder settings before and after installing the new firmware.
