Why 720p if your TV is 1080p?

The TV will convert 1080i to the TV's native display format. Some HDTV sets accept 24p but not many cheap 32" will. If your set does accept 1920x1080p/24, then it will convert that to native display format.

    I don't think the PS3 supports 24p. I need to check that.

Just looked, the PS3 will do 24p over HDMI, does your TV accept 24p? What is the model number?

OK, that Toshiba is 1080p and can accept 24p over HDMI. So why do you want 720p?

Where did the 10Mb/s come from? Blu-Ray uses more than that even for VC-1.

Your TV is 1080p. You get best Blu-Ray quality feeding native 1920x1080p resolution to the TV. If you convert 1080p to 720p, the TV must convert it back to 1080p for display. You get a double conversion loss.
