    Can I connect my usb external hard drive to the dvd player in order to see or play the movies stored there?

    Depends on the player. If it has a usb jack then probably yes. But it will most likely be just divx/xvid and only certain types of each. Also you'll be limited to fat32 which has a file size limit of 4gb.

    Some players have a USB port for diagnostic/service use, not playback. Many BD players have a USB port for storage devices that are only used for BD Live content.
    You should look at the manual/feature list of the player, or user reviews, to know what the USB port of a particular player can be used for. It differs a lot.

  5. The DVD players I have tried only allow a USB memory stick to play movies. A portable hard drive drive connected to the USB did not work for me.
