Hi all,
Recently I've started to look into the best software to use for converting my rather large video file collection. I want to use it to directly copy the video stream while converting the audio stream and upgrading (as best as I can) it so that it doesn't sound completely awful when being played through my home theatre system. My video files are mainly mp4s, MKV's and avi's.
I came across Format factory and found it very easy to use and extremely effective. The issue I'm having with it is when I go to fast forward or rewind the MKV file (converted from both mp4 and MKV) it simply skips to the next file. I know it's something to do with the video seek index or something like that.
Do any of you know of a handy solution to this. I would much rather not have to run the file through another program/process and would simply like the one program to be the "be all and end all" program. I would really appreciate a solution to this as it's been wrecking my head for the past couple of days.
On a side note, if a solution can't be found, would you please recommend a good video conversion tool that can copy the video stream and convert the audio stream and that has a "Add a folder" option for input files. I've tried mediacoder and super (both slightly too complicated and awkward to use for my liking) Thanks.

Try opening one of the "encoded" MKVs with MKVMergeGUI and resaving it as a new MKV (no encoding involved). It might depend on the type of video inside. Does it fail to fast forward for every file? MKVMergeGUI will open MP4s and AVIs and remux them as MKVs so unless you need to convert the audio, maybe you could use it instead.
FFCoder will batch encode, it has an option to copy the video or audio and it's not too hard to use. Or Video To Video Converter is a similar program to Format Factory, and it can copy the audio/video. -
XMedia Recode
It will let you copy the original video stream and change the audio to what ever you want.
Once you get to grips with it it is nearly as easy (but much more powerful) than Format Factory.
