We have a Magnavox convertor device (modem) that has been operating without a hitch until tonight. I accidently hit the channel button on the remove control that came with the tv -- instead of the button on the remote for the convertor. Since that point, no matter what we've tried (including just plain turning off the tv and modem a few times) -- and we cannot get the modem remote to do anything, and when we try to use the remote for the tv itself -- just snow and static.

It is such an embarassingly non-technical problem -- but we have tried everything.

    Anyone with any ideas.

    Thanks.

We figure the cables are connected properly -- since everything has been operating -- until tonight.

We thought we'd doubled checked that it was in video 1 mode, and on channel 3...but we will try all of that again.

If we are not successful -- we will definitely be back!

Thanks very much for your response.

There are other things you could try.

Check the batteries in the remotes to be certain they are not dead.

A few times one of my converter boxes has overheated. Unplugging it from the wall, the TV and the antenna, and letting it cool off for a while helped. Many converter boxes remain in standby mode even when turned off and unplugging the cord from the electrical outlet is necessary to make sure they cool down completely. After the box has had a chance to cool down for an hour, re-connect it and see what happens.

While you are waiting, you could test the TV. Connect the antenna to the TV. See if you can change channels using the TV remote or the buttons on your TV. You may be able to tune in a CBS, NBC or ABC affilate. One of more of them are still available as analog in most areas unil June 12. If not, most low-power analog stations won't switch to digital for a few years yet.

We solved the mysterty. We should have to gone to the device menu instead of the video menu to "reinstate" channel 3. All is well.

    Thanks again for the help.
