I'm hoping to crop the black lines off of some of my mkv's (the x264 encoded video portion that is) without having to reencode the video (I want zero PQ loss from what they are now).

Anyone know of a tool that can crop like this?

    It's not possible without reencoding.

Some players like VLC and MPC allow you to crop during playback, if that helps.

  5. Even if you crop away the black lines your playback device will add them back in -- unless the remaining frame exactly matches the aspect ratio of the display.
