    I need to make a animated gif out of few seconds of MKV file, what is the quickest way to convert the video fomr MKV to AVI, so I could convert AVI to gif later...

    You can try avidemux, to both cut out the clip and convert to avi.

    Or use winff, handbrake, xvid4psp.
