    converting MKV to XviD...

    -original ratio: 2.35
    -MKV ratio: 2.42

    -XviD ratio: 2.35 OR 2.40?

  2. Depends on whether or not there are black borders in the MKV to fill out the difference between 2.35 and 2.42 or if the video was just stretched to fill the frame.

  3. Also depends what the source was (the actual source, not the mkv). You rarely get exact 2.35 active image area on blu-ray, and usually you use mod16 so the mkv is a bit off as well

  4. I would just find something spherical, or some other known shape, and measure it. On the other hand, you probably won't notice a 3 percent AR error anyway.

i'm not quite sure how it was done, my buddy helped me cuz i only know xvid stuff...i know we autocropped the video black bars to make the MKV, but we had to rush through the rest & somehow ended up with 2.42...?

when i take a screenshot of the MKV, it shows without black bars, 1280x528

i have xvid4psp, would it help if i checked the MKV with Media Info or MKV Info tools? i would have from the start, but it takes some time to transfer such a big file back to my HD ...

  8. Without actually seeing the video, and a section with something of identifiable aspect ratio, or the original video for comparison, there's no way of saying how you should handle it. Even if there are no black borders encoded into the frame it's possible that a little of the picture was cropped in order to maintain the proper aspect ratio of the source within the 1280x528 frame.

You are simply going to have to eyeball it. And if you can't tell which is right, then it doesn't matter, does it?!

btw, since the source is so sharp and nice already, is there any point in using any denoise/sharpening or brightness/contrast settings with my conversion to xvid?
