  1. I just brned a VCD for the first time, and went to play it on my friend's standalone DVD player. The sound came up, along with the picture, however the picture would only show up in Black and White. When i went to play the VCD on my comp, the colors were there, but not on the DVD player. I used Nero 5.5 to copy it to a disk, but i'm not sure what the problem is.

sounds like the wrong format, as in the mpeg you encoded was either done in pal (european standard) or ntsc (american standard), and the player is the opposite of that. If you play a pal movie on an ntsc system it will come out black and white, and I would assume the same for the reverse.

  3. You have probably done everything right when burning you VCD, it's just that your TV-set doesn't get the format of the signal right. Are you using a SCART-cable between your DVD and TV? If not, do so! Not all TV-sets accept a 'foreign' format on the antenna/S-VHS/AV cables, a FULLY populated SCART will probably fix your problem, and make sure all 20 pins are connected.
