Mpeg files horriably distorted while playing on dvd

One of my mpeg video files plays fine on my pc, but when i burn it and try to play it on my dvd player, its kind of hard to explain, but its like its chopped into pices. It plays but the video is really screwed up. Does any one know how to fix this. On a side note, ive attempted to burn it many times with the same turn out.

Exactly what seetings did you use in your encoding program? Which encoding program did you use?

Nvm, i figured out how to get it to work. I'm using nero. I just reencoded it and it worked fine.
