Maybe. Depends on how you set it up.
I would go with a quad core CPU, 3GHz or better. 4GB RAM for a 32bit OS, more for a 64bit. 64bit OS's don't seem to have a lot of native software support, but that's your call.
Lot's of hard drive space. I use three hard drives in most of the PC's I put together. A small one for boot, and two larger ones for edit and storage. Mostly 500GB drives for that. I still use a 80GB for the OS boot, but whatever is available. Make sure the motherboard has enough SATA connections. Six or more is becoming standard with higher end MBs.
If you are wanting to get into gaming, then the video card becomes more important. Lots of options there. Most higher end cards need a direct power supply connection, so make sure your PS has that. -
Hi,
HP Z800 Workstation is an excellent choice for video editing. This Workstation is also certified with most of the ISV vendors in the digital content arena. Personally I suggest using SAS disks for online editing and SATA disks for storage.
The Z800 can host up to 5 SAS disk, or in combination with SATA drives, up to 6 disks in total.
What I really find cool is the slot load Optical Disk drive and the enormous progress done on the styling of the chassis, the noise reduction end the great expandibility.
I've read somewhere that this unit will support 6 cores Intel CPUs when available, so up to 12 cores in a single unit!!! Sounds like HP will offer soon also Parallel virtualization software so you will be able to share this incredible power between multiple OSs working at the same time...even the two graphic cards can be shared!!!
This is the coolest worstation I have ever seen...and it's 10 years that I'm working in this area.
Personally I have ordered one of those and I already have played a bit with...impressive.
Regards,
Sandro
