    New Toy need tips...
    Sanyo xacti E1 - MP4 format

    Need help with the settings for avidemux - the goal is to use it to cut down to clean clips and export those to AVI format for saving off and incorperation into larger projects. if there is another method for my goal i would welcome any and all suggestions.

    here are the details:

    On the Files produced by the camera Gspot Reports:

    Video:
    mp42: MP4 v2 [ISO 14496-14]
    - avc1: MP4 Base w/ AVC ext [ISO 14496-12:2005]
    Recommended Display Size: 640 x 480

    Audio:
    mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC
    48000Hz 128 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)

    So in Avidemux

    When i open a file i get the h.264 detected message and something about using b-frames as a reference. Do i say yes or no to that? assume loosing frame accuracy is bad so i assume "No" is the right response ?

    Video = MEG-4 AVC(x264)
    Under configure left all default settings - any advice on these?

    Audio = ACE (LAVC)
    Not sure about that one... under configure 128 bit
    Filters - None/Stereo and 4800 resample

    Are these the best settings? ... so far it all would seem to be working i just don't want to go down the road and find out i messed something up and have a pile of MP4's to reconvert.

    Also looking for validation on the whole approach... i considered just using Corel Video Studio and editing native MP4's but the recompression thing and problems incorporate into other mostly avi based projects concerned me.

    thanks in advance! let me know if this information is inadequate in any way to answer my questions.

  2. if you are just looking to crop, then leave video and audio on copy and container to mp4. try the b frame thing both ways and see which works?

    Tried that – leaving everything set to “copy” result was an avi file with the audio waaayyyy out of sync with the video.
    For some reason I had to set the options above for it to output correctly.
