I have followed the instructions for high-quality video found at Bob Somers site http://www.bobsomers.com/files/xvidac3tutorial.pdf and the quality was eye-popping good!
When the file was played on my computer the motion is smooth and beautiful. I say enough about the outstanding quality. However when the avi is burned to a disc and played on a regular old tube TV the motion pixelates into Z-like shapes.
Does this mean that regular TVs require a bit of blurring?

I guess it's the dvd player that problems with the xvid....not the tv. See https://forum.videohelp.com/topic357003.html (common divx/xvid problems).
