No desktop icon or Start menu with MPC Classic?

I downloaded and reinstalled MPC but this time I cannot get a desktop icon or even a Start menu for MPC Classic, each time I close the interface, I have to run the application file all over again to get the interface, help?

MPC is just a standalone executable. It doesn't install. To create a shortcut, right-click on the desktop, select New-> Shortcut, and follow the wizard prompts.

I get MPC with my codecs, k-lite adds the shortcut. It installs mpc to C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\Media Player Classic

what's wrong with codec packs please? I was told by everyone to download ffdshow?

Codec packs comes with tons of crap and may not be that easy to get rid of.

ffdshow is just one app and is easy to remove if you get problems. You basically just need mpc and ffdshow to view most videos.

Right click mplayerc.exe > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) > drag shortcut to Quick Launch bar.

For me, mplayerc.exe is located in C:\unzipped\mplayerc_homecinema_x86_v1.2.908.0



As for ffdshow, you have to be carefull with installing it also to make sure you don't have conflicts with codecs you already have installed. When I install ffdshow, I untick everything and just configure the VFW settings. If I need ffdshow decoder support for something later then I will add it as needed.

I'm not sure what they are saying about codec packs...

I watch all kinda video with MPC without any issues. I just reloaded this system recently, installed k-lite, played movies, made a couple dvd's from scratch, no problems here.

I remember issues with codec packs years ago, which is when I started using k-lite. Everything worked so I stayed with it through many updates.

Maybe the problems are there but only affect things I don't do.

Or maybe I've just been lucky
