Hi,
I am looking for the best way to rip from DVD so I can then edit in either premiere or movie maker.
I have tried several options but none seem to work properly. some are not recognised by the editing software some have sound out of sync etc.
What format should I be trying to rip the DVD to to then be able to edit?
I have just ripped to .avi but premiere wont open the file.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Pete

What kind of editing are you wanting to do? If you are just wanting to cut out portions you need to look for a simple frame accurate mpeg editor like womble mpeg video wizard. Neither Premiere or movie maker natively open MPEG files.
depending on what types of edits you are doing, you might be able to get away with never having to re-encode, therefore not losing any quality. -
Ripped to avi? What program? what video and audio codec.
Some of the latest editors can import dvds like mpeg video wizard, vegas and probably latest premiere. But they might not support ac3,dts audio.
I use avidemux to convert to avi, open the first main vob, select yes to append all vob files, under video choose mjpeg or dv-avi, under audio choose pcm/wav and save as avi. -

Yes, I own all the footage and copyrights. (before anyone asks)

I also have another question,
I have a solid state video recorder which records to compact falsh in .avi but when I drag it in to editing software it puts the footage on the sound time line and not the video timeline. any ideas?
