hiya folks - newbie to the site here
i am having problems with my 2 dvd players
1 is a samsung DVD P380 - the other is a Lg DV276
they are both divx compatible with dvdr dvdrw etc etc
my problem is that if i put avi films in data format to dvd-r - i can fit 5 or 6 films to a disc and they play perfect on the 2 players - BUT - if i use dvd+rw then the players will not even read them
i have tried writing different ways - e.g. multisession but still no luck
any ideas anyone??
can anyone tell me why this is please
thanks in advance

It could be that your players have problems with re-writable media. However, this is more often associated with players 3+ years old than newer models.
It could be something with your burning process, but that's unlikely since burning to DVD-R works. Do note that multisession is a very bad idea and should be avoided like the plague. Some players can correctly play multisession discs, but a large number cannot and will only see either the first or last session (it varies per player) and nothing else.
Finally, it could be your media. Verbatim makes the only consistently reliable re-writable media. If you are using any other brand of DVD+RW, the discs may simply be of too low quality for your players. -
Did you do a full format first? Some players don't like the quick formats.

hi there
i am fully formatting the discs first - and i am using verbatim dvd+rw
thanks for the heads up about multisession - i didn't know that - but even when i turn multisession off the discs still will not read - even though the instructions on both players say that they can be read -
Although less likely today, the older players used to be more finicky with RW media, even though they mention full compatibility with them. You would get away with some stuff using R media that you wouldn't with RW.
To summarize, and add, to jman98, and Supreme2K's posts:
-Check the way you format. Do avoid those methods that let you drag and drop - at least for video player compatibility. When you have your video files ready, just burn them as data in one session very much like you would with a DvD-R. If you multi-session, you may be adding baggage to RW media that annoys the player.
-And I agree with checking the brand. Players are more finicky with RW brands, even when it may work on a lesser R brand. And yes, Verbatim does indeed rock.
EDIT: Just saw your post. Ok, maybe it's not the brand.
-Keep in mind, RW has been going through more changes than the more stable, as-is, R media. Compatibility may only be on par with what was available at the time of the player's release. You may have to try an older version of RW, if available.
-As well, burn all files to the root directory, no folders. Maybe seeking with RW is problematic for the player.
-Another thing may be the fact that your player only uses "-" media (as most older players 4+ years old). Your DvD-R media will work, but a DvD+RW (or even a DvD+R) won't work. (This by reading your post, you may need to try DvD-RW instead.)I hate VHS. I always did.
