  1. Here is my plan:

I have a Japanese DVD with a Japanese audio track only. I want to add an English audio track and English subtitle track to the DVD. I've got those two figured out and don't need any help with those. The thing is, while adding the subs and dub, I'd like to keep the original animated menus. They are in Japanese so I would like to translate them to English.

I've searched a little bit and figure that I'll have to take apart the animated menu completely, translate it, then reconstruct it in DVDLab Pro? I'm just not very familiar with animated menus and I haven't dealt with them much. Could anyone provide me with a quick rundown of the process and the tools I might need? As in, what program should I use to take apart the original menu? I think the buttons are "overlays" that are in Japanese, so I need to translate those to English - how would I go about doing that? Please, correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not certain as to what I'm talking about here. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the underlying subpics are bitmaps (BMPs) and you'll have to create fresh ones in English. DVDSubEdit can extract the individual BMPs, and also add back in edited BMPs. Then you also have to edit the video (or create brand new video) with the translated button overlays. This is a very difficult project you've undertaken, and you might have better luck just adding in some text beside the buttons translating what the Japanese says. Or even making still menus out of them and then adding text. I have a guide that explains the process, but nothing about subpic replacement or what you're attempting to do (again, if I'm understanding you correctly):
