I want to know how to make the avi file smaller by about 40mb or so, so it will fit on a cd. Not too sure how to do it. Its like 755mb and i dont feel like making the file to fit on two cds.

get 90/99 mins cdrs...if your burner supports it
or
cut something out with virtualdub
or
reencode the entire video to lower bitrate
or
BUY THE DVD -
the easiest way would probably be to use VirtualDub and keep it set to direct stream copy for the video and re-encode the audio with a lower bitrate. that way you will not loose any video quality at all and the final file size will be smaller.
peace out,
