  1. I have the dynex dx-sc51 sound card, but when I insert the driver disc it says OS nor recognized. I have Vista 64 bit.
Without the driver the optical out on the card doesn't play surround - only 2 channels.

Where can I get a driver for this thing?

    thanks

  4. Vista uses a totally different driver model for audio. If your card is more than 2-3 years old you are probably SOL.

(Aside: the reason given for changing the driver model is that most soundcard vendors were writing bloody awful drivers leading to many BSDs - especially Creative. The new driver model is so-called user mode instead of kernel mode thereby allowing shitty drivers to crash without bringing the OS to its knees.)

  6. Dynex = Best Buy house brand. Go there and complain. Maybe they'll give you a small credit towards a new sound card?

  8. Just took a peek at those drivers - April 2003. Ain't no way there'll be Vista drivers for a card from that time.

I had to retire a really nice soundcard. Indeed, I had to retire an even nicer one when I went from NT4 to W2K.
